I'm blogging live from the session on distributed grassroots marketing at NetSquared. The speakers are Elisa Camahort, Tara Hunt, Chris Messina, and it's being moderated by Marnie Webb. I'm definitely not catching everything and it won't all be totally correct but I hope you'll forgive me and find it useful anyway. :)

New Gig

I started a new job last week.

Yep, it's true! I am now the proud bearer of the title of Community Manager for http://desmogblog.com, another fine site by your Drupal Rockstar friends at Raincity Studios.

That's "DeSmogBlog", as in "we don't want no more smog, thanks," and its mission is to "clear the PR pollution that clouds climate change science". It's the personal project of Jim Hoggan of Hoggan and Associates, which he began after he got frustrated by watching his fellow PR professionals use their talents to confuse the public. The science is clear, the site says, and there is too much bad PR out there being used to make the public think otherwise. Check out the Manifesto here.

I'll be spending 15 hours a week building community, driving traffic, researching the wide world of climate change action and discussion on the web, and generally driving momentum behind a project with an existing strong team that deserves even wider exposure. Know of any great resources? Feel free to email me suggestions to sarah AT desmogblog DOT com.

Special thanks go to Scales and kk+ for the recommendation and the consistent vote of confidence. :)

My Chevy Apprentice Ad

Get it while it's hot... this offer won't last long!

The short story: someone at Chevy came up with the brilliant idea to hold a contest where their loyal customers and adoring public would compete to create the winning "commercial that brings the best Tahoe ever to life". Naturally, when you create a tool that allows you to combine the cheesiest video clips EVER (flowers bowing at the SUV, mountains to tear through, pornographic shots of the fabulous rear entrance opening) with text to supplement the images... people are going to use your tool to create commercials that you might not like.

And it was the most fun I had all day. Though the product would be much better if I had actually put more than 5 minutes into it.

I don't think this will stick around for long, so make sure you make your video now!

I will try and Youtube mine tonight so that it won't disappear when the tool does.

And if you want more, check out the "Tahoe" tag on YouTube. I particularly liked this one.

About this Site

A hodge-podge of random thoughts, musings, and links – sometimes about social change, sometimes about technology and the web, sometimes about yoga, and occasionally about knitting. Sometimes (because I'm a Canadian girl with deep roots in the British Isles) I even write about the weather.

I'm a yoga teacher, founder of Yoga for Geeks, and a freelance web writer, strategist, and project manager. I also help to co-create the amazing Web of Change Conference, every September in beautiful British Columbia.
